Unusual Cerebral Paragonimiasis

Abstract
The vast majority cases of paragonimiasis are noted in Far-East (Esp. Korea. and Japan) and occasionally in China, South America and Africa. On reviewing the literature, cerebral paragonimiasis was mainly caused by Paragonimus
Westermani and rarely paragonimus Szechenensis. The Paragonimus Westermani was mainly involved to lung but ectopic paragonimiasis was also reported in. many cases, especially cerebral or spinal in the neurological field. But many cases of C.N.S. paragonimiasis, were combined with pulmonary paragonimiasis.
Recently, we experienced one case of cerebral paragonimiasis. The 22 year old male patient was admitted with one episode of convulsive seizure. The patient was not combined with pulmonary paragonimiasis and also there was no, any evidence of contamination with paragonimus including skin test. Plain films of skull were revealed multiple soap-bubble featured calcification in the parietooccipital region on left. The small and large cystic granulomatouss calcified masses were removed totally. The eggs of Paragonimus Westermani were discovered by microscopic examination. Convulsive seizure was subsided after operation and medication of Bithionol.
This case was acutely exacervated form of paragonimiasis in its clinical course without evidence of special underlying cause.
